Isoflurane, a volatile halogenated anaesthetic, causes a reversible loss of consciousness and pain sensations, suppression of voluntary motor activity, modification of autonomic reflexes, and depression of the respiratory and the CV system.
Perioperative hyperkalaemia; raised intracranial pressure. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy and lactation. Do not allow carbon dioxide absorbents in anaesthetic apparatus to dry out when delivering isoflurane to minimise the risk of developing elevated carboxyhaemoglobin levels. Lactation: use caution

It is administered under the supervision of a healthcare professional. The most common side effects include shivering, nausea, vomiting, high grade fever, decreased blood pressure, and irregular heartbeat. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Also, inform your doctor if you are on any medications or have any known allergy to this medicine before the start of the procedure. It may cause an increase in intracranial pressure which is the pressure inside the skull which can affect the ability to drive. It is also advised not to operate machinery because of these effects.
